HISTORY
The McLaren F1 GTR – BMW is a car that participated in the Le Mans 24 Hours of 1998. After the success with the McLaren F1 GTR n.59 in 1995, the Woking team tried to face the rise of the new GT1 presented by Porsche, Nissan and Panoz. Modified the car by extending the nose and rear increasing the downforce, and lowering the engine displacement.
The English GTC Racing team Tim Sugden, Bill Auberlen and Steve O’Rourke with the McLaren F1 GTR – BMW n.40 finished fourth at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, with a gap of eight laps from the winner.
The race won by Porsche 911 GT1-98 n.26 with Laurent Aiello, Allan McNish and Stephane Ortelli, second finished Kazuyoshi Hoshino, Aguri Suzuki and Masahiko Kageyama at the wheel of the Nissan R390 GT1 n.32, while in third position Jorg Muller, Uwe Alzen and Bob Wollek with the Porsche 911 GT1-98 n.25.
