HISTORY

The McLaren F1 GTR – BMW is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1996. The competition car derived from the road car was designed by engineer Gordon Murray. The F1 GTR was equipped with a 470 kW BMW S70/2 engine, and compared to the road version weighed 100 kg less.

The Italian Bigazzi Team Srl team with Jacques Laffite, Steve Soper and Marc Duez at the wheel of the McLaren F1 GTR – BMW n.38 finished eleventh at the 24 Hours Le Mans 1996 with a gap of thirty-six laps to winners.

The race was won by Manuel Reuter, Davy Jones and Alexander Wurz at the wheel of the TWR-Porsche WSC-95 n.7, in second the Porsche 911 GT1 n.25 with Hans-Joachim Stuck, Bob Wollek and Thierry Boutsen with a gap of one lap while in third position the Porsche 911 GT1 n.26 with Karl Wendlinger, Yannick Dalmas and Scott Goodyear with a gap of thirteen laps.
