HISTORY

Williams – Renault FW16 is a car that participated in the 1994 Formula 1 World Championship. After winning the world championship in 1993 with Williams FW15C, Alain Prost retired from racing, and Frank Williams was able to hire three-time world champion Ayrton Senna. The new car designed by Patrick Head and Adrian Newey due to the new technical regulations, had to do without the electronic devices that made it unbeatable in the last two world championships.

Ayrton Senna at the wheel of the Williams – Renault FW16 lost the road to the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.

Despite being the favorite to win the title, and despite the pole position in the first two races in Brazil and the Pacific, the pilot Brazilian was forced to retire both times. Ready to redeem himself in the Imola circuit, Senna won the third pole position of the season, but the death of the driver Roland Ratzenberger during the qualifying upset him very much. On the seventh lap, while he was in charge of the race, due to the broken seat he crashed into the Tamburello curve. Transported by helicopter to the hospital, Senna died of a skull injury caused by an arm of the right front wheel.
