HISTORY
McLaren – Ford Cosworth M23 n.11 is the winning car of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1976. After the world championship won in 1974 with McLaren M23, Emerson Fittipaldi lost the world championship the following year, in 1976 the English team decided to to replace the Brazilian driver with a young English driver who had shown excellent results with Hesketh. The change of regulation that came into force from the Grand Prix of Spain forced all the teams to remove the high air intakes that characterized the formula 1 of the mid seventies.
James Hunt with McLaren – Ford Cosworth M23 n.11 won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1976, for the British driver was the first and only world title. The season was a duel between Hunt and Niki Lauda with Ferrari, the latter at the Grand Prix of Germany suffered a serious accident that caused him serious burns, the Austrian decided to win the title returned to racing in Monza after forty days. In the last race in Japan, under a flood the Englishman obtained a fourth place that allowed him to overtake the Ferrari driver who had retired after three laps of a point. During the season Hunt won six Grand Prizes: Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Canada and United States.
