HISTORY
The Renault Alpine A442A is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1978. The car designed by the collaboration between the French manufacturer and the Alpine.
The French Ecurie Calberson team with Guy Frequelin, Jean Ragnotti, Jose Dolhem at the wheel of the Renault Alpine A442A n.4 finished fourth at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1978 with a gap of eleven laps to winners. The race won by Didier Pironi and Jean Pierre Jaussand with the Renault Alpine A442B n.2. In second arrived the Porsche 936-78 n.6 of the Martini Racing Porsche System team of Bob Wollek, Jurgen Barth, Jacky Ickx with a gap of five laps and the Porsche 936-77 n.7 of Hurley Haywood, Peter Gregg and Reinhold Joest spaced seven laps. The French team brought the A443 version to the race with a longer wheelbase and a more powerful engine, which commanded the race for eighteen hours but was forced to retire due to engine problems.
