HISTORY

The Porsche 935-78 is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1979. The car with the modifications to the front and rear took on a very elongated shape and was nicknamed by the workers Moby Dick in honor of the white whale featured in Herman Melville’s novel.

The German Porsche System Martini team with drivers Rolf Stommelen, Manfred Schurti at the wheel of the Porsche 935-78 n.43 finished eighth at the 24 hours of Le Mans 1978 with forty-three laps behind the winner. The race won by Didier Pironi and Jean Pierre Jaussand with the Renault Alpine A442B n.2. In second arrived the Porsche 936-78 n.6 of the Martini Racing Porsche System team of Bob Wollek, Jurgen Barth, Jacky Ickx with a gap of five laps and the Porsche 936-77 n.7 of Hurley Haywood, Peter Gregg and Reinhold Joest spaced seven laps.
