HISTORY

The Williams – Renault FW18 is the dominant car of the Formula 1 World Championship in 1996. Born from the mind of Adrian Newey the FW18 was an update of the FW17B that competed in 1995. The partnership with Renault, the best engine of the era, completed an aerodynamically exceptional car.

The British Rothmans Williams Renault team with Jacques Villenueve at the wheel of the Williams – Renault FW18 n.6 finished second in the Formula 1 World Championship 1996. During the season the Canadian driver won four grand prix: GP Europe, GP Great Britain, GP Hungary and GP Portugal. At the start of the season the transfer of Schumacher to Ferrari, weakened the Benetton, while the Maranello house was still struggling with reliability issues. Together with his teammate Damon Hill they took Williams to winner the constructors’ title. The English team also won the constructors’ title thanks to 12 victories out of 16 races.
