HISTORY
The 2011 Audi R18 TDI is the prototype that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2011. The R18 was very different from the previous car, the Audi R15 TDI. In aerodynamics, the biggest news was the use of the covered cab, after years of success with the opposite solution. The engine saw the abandonment of the V10 for the new V6. The German Audi Sport North America team with Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish nad Rinaldo Capello at the wheel of Audi R18 TDI n.3 did not finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2011 starting from the fifth position, due to an accident after having covered fourteen laps
The race was won by Audi R18 TDI n.2 with Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer, Marcel Fassler, second Sebastien Bourdais, Simon Pagenaud, Pedro Lamy with the Peugeot 908 HDi n.9 whit a gap of thirteen seconds, while third Stephane Sarrazin, Franck Montagny, Nicolas Minassian with the Peugeot 908 HDi n.8 whit a gap of two laps.
