HISTORY
The Bentley 4 1/2 Litre is the winning car of the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1928. The British manufacturer after the revenge obtained in 1927 with the Bentley 3 Litre ‘Sport’, updated the car by increasing the displacement of the engine to 4.5 liters . The new challenge was with the American team Stutz ready to redeem the defeat at the Indianapolis 500 miles. Woolf Barnato and Bernard Rubin won with the Bentley 4 1/2 Litre n.4 the 24 hours of Le Mans 1928, for the builder it was the third success.
The race was initially characterized by the duel Bentley and Stutz, but during the night the American car was slowed by problems with the gearbox, this allowed the English car to lengthen, but a few hours from the end had mechanical problems that reduced the accumulated advantage, with difficulty they crossed the finish line as winners. In second place came the Stutz DV16 Blackhawk n.1 driven by Brisson and Bloch with a gap of one lap, while in third place the Chrysler 72 Six n.8 of Stoffel and Rossignol with a ten laps gap.
