Description
BRABHAM – BMW BT55 n.7
HISTORY
The Brabham – BMW BT55 is a single-seater that participated in the 1986 Formula 1 World Championship. The designer Gordon Murray applied new concepts on the BT55 that were the basis of the winning McLaren MP4/4 that dominated the 1988 world championship. The car was nicknamed “sole”, being very low, so much so that the driver was very lying down and the wheelbase it was very long. The season was full of retreats due to mechanical weakness.
Riccardo Patrese with the Brabham – BMW BT55 n.7 arrived seventeenth in the 1986 Formula 1 World Championship with two point in season. The Italian driver was joined by Elio De Angelis and Derek Warwick during the season. During the tests at Paul Ricard with Brabham, De Angelis lost his life, perhaps due to the detachment of the rear wing.
