BRABHAM – FORD COSWORTH BT49C n.5
HISTORY
The Brabham – Ford Cosworth BT49C, and the winning car of the 1981 Formula One World Championship. The team led by Bernie Ecclestone after the defeat of the 1980 world with the Brabham BT49B, updated the same car, the designer Gordon Murray in the C version he had to adapt to the new regulations, which forced the teams to a minimum height of six centimeters from the ground. Nelson Piquet with the Brabham – Ford Cosworth BT49C n.5 won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1981, for the Brazilian driver was the first world title.
The season was a duel between the Brazilian driver, and Williams of Carlos Reutemann. The World Cup had its epilogue only at the last Grand Prix of Las Vegas, where the Brabham driver arrived fifth at the finish and surpassed by one point in the standings the Argentine driver, who came only eighth and out of the points. Piquet in season won three Grands Prix: Argentina, San Marino and Germany.
Together with teammate Hector Rebaque they scored sixty-one points for team Brabham in the constructors’ title
