HISTORY
HISTORY
The Ford GT40 is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1969. The American car began to be in difficulty with the new prototypes, the regulation limited the development and the Team John Wyer Automotive Engineering showed up with the same Ford GT40 winning the year before.
Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1969 with the Ford GT40 n.6 with a gap of four seconds on the Porsche 908 n.64 of Hermann and Larousse brought in the race by the Porsche team. The duel was very exciting and in the last hour the two cars surpassed themselves continuously, the highest speed of the German prototype was offset by the higher stability in the corners of American sport.
The race was remembered by the protest of Ickx against the type of departure, which included the race of the pilots on the opposite side where the cars were stopped and many drivers to anticipate the start did not fasten the belts, the Belgian rider did not run and calmly fastened the seat belts. Precisely because of the non-use of the belts at the start the British pilot John Wolfee died on the first lap.
