HISTORY
The Jaguar C-Type is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1953. After the overheating withdrawals in the 1952 Le Mans 24 Hours, the British manufacturer solved the problem by reusing the lightweight body of the winning version Jaguar XK 120C of 1951. The main novelty was the introduction of disc brakes, and was the only car to use them.
The British Jaguar Cars team with Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt won with the Jaguar C-Type n.18 the 24 hours of Le Mans 1953, for the Coventry team was the second success in the French race.
The C-Type proved very fast and with the n.17 driven by Moss and Walker came second with a gap of four laps, while in third place the Cunningham C5-R n.2 of Walters and Fitch with a gap of five laps . The Ferrari 375 MM n.12 of Ascari and Villoresi was the only one to keep up with the winners until the clutch broke at the twentieth hour.
