HISTORY
The Lagonda Rapide M45 is a car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1935. After the four consecutive victories of the Alfa Romeo, the chances of finding a valid alternative were few. With the death of the owner, General Metcalfe, Lagonda was in bankruptcy, Arthur Fox took the opportunity to buy a Lagonda Rapide M45 to deploy it in the French endurance race.
The English Arthur W.Fox & Charles Nicholl Ltd with John Hindmarsch and Luis Fontes at the wheel of the Lagonda Rapide M45 n.4 winner the 24 hours of Le Mans 1935, for the team Arthur Fox was a surprising success.
In the race the Alfa took the lead, but in the early hours they suffered withdrawals, to take advantage was the Lagonda that went ahead, but at the end of the race had to slow down due to technical problems, and only a timing error did not complete the recovery of the Alfa. In second place came the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 n.12 driven by Louis-Dreyfus and Stoffel with a gap of eight km, while in third place the Aston Martin 1 1/2 Ulster n.29 of Martin and Brackenbury with a gap of seven laps.
