HISTORY

The Ligier – Matra JS5 n.26 is a car that participated in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1976. After the positive results in F2 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans and thanks to the financing of the sponsor Gitanes, Guy Ligier embarks on a new adventure . The French car was designed by Gerard Ducarouge and fitted with a Matra engine, and is the first Ligier to participate in a Formula 1 World Championship.

Jacques Laffite with the Ligier – Matra JS5 n.26 reached eighth in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1976 with twenty points. The World Championship was won by James Hunt with the McLaren M23 n.11 for a point against Niki Lauda with the Ferrari 312 T. Laffite, at the debut in Formula 1, during the season got two podiums at Monza and in Belgium and the pole position at the Gran Prix of Italy. The Ligier in its first year end the season in fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
