HISTORY

The McLaren F1 GTR – BMW is the car that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1995. The competition car derived from the road car was designed by engineer Gordon Murray. The F1 GTR was equipped with a 470 kW BMW S70/2 engine, and compared to the road version weighed 100 kg less. Derek Bell, Justin Bell and Andy Wallace at the wheel of the McLaren F1 GTR – BMW n.51 finished third at the 24 Hours Le Mans 1995 with a gap of two laps to winners Yannik Dalmas, Jyrki Jarvi Lehto and Masanori Sekiya with the McLaren F1 GTR – BMW n.59.

Second the Courage P34 of Bob Wollek, Mario Andretti and Eric Helary, detached from a lap. McLaren won Le Mans at the debut and occupied four positions in the top five places. The F1 GTR proved to be very successful also in the BPR Global GT Series Championship.
