HISTORY
The Porsche 919 hybrid is a prototype that participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2014. The Porsche after sixteen years ago its return to the endurance world with an innovative car. Their hybrid system, unlike the Audi R18 and the Toyota TS040, was based on a lithium-ion battery pack.
The German Porsche Team with Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley with the Porsche 919 hybrid n.20 did not finish in the 24 hours of Le Mans 2014, due to broken oil pump to the youth of the car. During the season the competitiveness of the 919 gradually increased, up to the 6 hours of San Paolo where it obtained its first victory, taking advantage of the safety car entered in the last laps that stopped the recovery of Toyota.
The race won by Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer at the wheel of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro n.2. In second place Tom Kristensen, Marc Gene and Lucas Di Grassi at the wheel of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro n.1 with a gap of three laps. While in third position the Toyota TS 040 Hybrid n.8 Anthony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Nicolas Lapierre with a gap of five laps.
