HISTORY

The Porsche 956 is the winning car of the 24 Hours Le Mans of 1983. After the victory with the Porsche 956 in 1982, the official team began selling the 956 to the private teams giving them the chance to win races like the official team.

The German Sorga SA Joest Racing Team with Volkert Merl, Clemens Schickentanz and Maurizio De Narvaez at the wheel of the Porsche 956 n.12 finished fourth in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1983 with a gap of nine laps to winner. The 956 sale to individuals led to a domination of the Stuttgart manufacturer occupying ten positions on the first eleven. The winner the race was Porsche 956 n.3 with Vern Schuppan, Al Holbert, Hurley Haywood, in second place the Porsche 956 n.1 with Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell, while in third position the Porsche 956 n.21 with Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Philippe Alliot.
