HISTORY

The Porsche 956 is a prototype that participated at the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1984. The British Gt Engineering/Canon Team with Richard Lloyd, Nick Mason and Rene Metge at the wheel of the Porsche 956 n.16 did not finish in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1984 due to the outside assistance after running one hundred thirty-nine laps. The winner the race was Porsche 956B n.7 with Klaus Ludwig and Henry Pescarolo, in second place the Porsche 956 n.26 with Jean Rondeau and John Paul jr, while in third position the Porsche 956B with David Hobbs, Philippe Streiff and Sarel Van Der Merwe.

The race was conditioned by the death of the race commissioner Jacky Loiseau due to the incident involving John Sheldon’s Nimrod-Aston Martin and Drake Olson’s sister car.
